First homework
Mateo had his first homework assignment this past week. It was really cute to see him work hard on it and be proud to finish it. If only homework could always be coloring! The best part was when I showed him this picture the next day. He said, "that's me and my e-mail!"

Welcome to Blog-A-Day March!
I have a lofty goal this month: to pay more attention to this blog and spend some creative time devoting myself to it, and hopefully in the process bring joy to its readers. In turn, the ultimate goal is to bring more happiness and fulfillment to myself. So, I will post something each day this month. Who knows, maybe it will inspire me to want to document more, as we all know how kids grow up so fast.
For my first post on the first day of this month, I want to share some news that many know already, but some do not...
Matt and I are getting married! Yes, finally! (Pigs are flying by me as I type.) Needless to say, we are thrilled and now comes the fun part...planning a celebration! Now, this blog is called Mateo & Elise, not Mateo & Elise's mommy and daddy wedding. So, you will not here all about it here. But of course this changes our family in the most positive way and I just had to share!
Here is a not-so-good iPhone picture taken the night Matt proposed. It's the only one we have, so I had to use it. But, one of the most important things to take away from the picture is...yes, those are doughnuts on the table. They were warm and were dunked in a custard dip. But that's not the only reason why we are happy here...
Here's my ring. It was Matt's grandmother's. It's vintage. It's beautiful, and I love it!

Happy Valentine's Day!
Don't be fooled. I made these strawberry cupcakes last night, and they look darling, but they are literally a mouthful of sugar. That's what I get for using store bought frosting. I'm actually going to make fresh frosting tonight and scrape them off for a do-over. One thing moms are allowed to do is do-overs. Because there are a lot of opportunities for them! Have a wonderful, love filled day with your friends and family! XOXO
And here a few cute recent pics...and yes, I haven't posted Mateo's birthday pictures yet. I like to do things out of order sometimes. :)
Rocker daddy and son.
The definition of a hazard.
No, Elise isn't potty trained yet. But she loves sitting on the potty and pretending.
A rare sunny Oregon day on Super Bowl Sunday.
My cutie pie at the Bounce Gym.
And lastly, a warning. Turn your volume down, but not all the way, because I want you to get a clear glimpse of how my life is right now.

Things Mateo said tonight that made me smile
Mateo: do you want to hear a joke?
Me: yeah.
Mateo: why did the dog cross the road with poop on his nose?
Me: why?
Mateo: so he could put it on the poopy car.
(his favorite word is anything related to poop right now)
Me: what does a mommy do?
Mateo: she takes care of people.
Me: what does a brother do?
Mateo: he takes care of his sister.
Me: what does a sister do?
Mateo: plays.
Me: what does a daddy do?
Mateo: they go to work.
Me: yeah.

Christmas 2011
I was pretty horrified when I clicked into my blog and saw that my last post was on Halloween. So much has happened between there and now, but as I'm sure you all would just love to hear all the little details, I'll spare you and talk about Christmas. We did our annual week long trip to Stockton to celebrate Christmas at Matt's parent's house. We were blessed with gorgeous clear weather and sun. My mom was also able to come visit for a few days, so it indeed felt like a true holiday. Elise being a little older this year loved the decorations and kept trying to get at the Christmas tree (much to Nana's dismay), but Mateo and her also had a great time running around with all their cousins and seeing Santa. We had a fabulous week there and are always sad when it's time to go. But...I guess it's only fair to give Nana and Papa their house (and sanity) back after we go. Here are some highlights...

Heaven.

This just says it all!

This is Halloween, 2011
Happy Halloween! This year as Halloween was on a Monday, we took our ladybug and Bob the Builder to my work for trick or treating and a party. But I got a few shots of them before we went in...
Hope everyone had a nice Halloween!
